Who am I?

7:29pm on Thursday 16th May 2013

I'm Matthew Caine; an RIT Graduate with a BS in Game Design and Development. I am an experienced game, web, and mobile developer.

I excel at game design, game programming, graphic design, web design, web programming, and plenty of other areas. I'm fully suited to take on a variety of jobs.

My passion is to become a game developer, but as you may be able to tell from this website, I love development of all kinds.

Why do I do this?

In eighth grade, I discovered my love for programming. It began when I took a Personal Enrichment Program class that taught REAL Basic. I learned how much fun creating a character and moving him around the screen was.

I then started taking classes and programming on my own when the classes weren't offering me enough. I created a couple of simple Shoot 'Em Up games and fighting games.

As I focused more on development, I enrolled in 2 summer programs. One was in the summer of 2005, after my sophomore year in high school. It was a fast paced game design program at NYU where I learned how to work with the Unreal 2004 engine. I helped create a game we dubbed Antslaught. The next summer I enrolled in an OpenGL programming class at Stevens Institute of Technology. I acquired knowledge about C++ and OpenGL, a language and a library that I'd never used before.

The next year I was accepted to RIT's Game Design and Development Program. Fast forward several years and I've now graduated from RIT and have worked for EOIR Technologies, Harris RF, and HSBC.

What else do I do?

So outside of programming and school work, what else do I do? Well, my current biggest passion is Super Smash Bros. Melee. I've been following the competitive scene for years and I love the game and the community. I ran a club at RIT for the series called "The RIT Smash Club" for 3 years. I hold regular tournaments for it and I help out other tournament organizers in any way I can.

I also enjoy many other games ranging from big name titles to random obscure titles. I enjoy biking, pilates, dodgeball, rock climbing, and a whole plethora of outdoor activities. I and my brother take care of our own garden, and I wear really funny hats.

That's pretty much my life in a nutshell. I hope you enjoyed it.

Who am I?

I'm Matthew Caine, an undergrad in RIT's Game Design and Development program. I'm looking for one last internship in order to graduate.

Up until now I've been searching for the appropriate track in Game Development that I'd like to follow. Unfortunately, I've always known that I wanted to make games, I just have never known what I wanted to do within development.

Going through RIT's Game Design and Development Program allowed me to find out that I have many strengths in many areas, but I still lack focus. I have ample abilities as a programmer, designer, level designer, project lead, web developer, and so many others, but I lack the desire to focus purely on one of those aspects. I love each of these aspects of development, and as such, I'd like to find a career that allows me numerous opportunities and promotes my diversity of talents.
